Numbering problem when converting to .pdf

I have a perplexing problem that Adobe can't seem to shed
much light on. Perhaps it's a WORD problem. When
numbering a document using my "Page X of Y" code in a
header, my WORD document appears fine. However, when
converting to .pdf using Adobe Acrobat, the code does not
translate and instead of Page 1 of 3; Page 2 of 3; Page 3
of 3 - it comes out Page 1 of 1; page 2 of 2, etc. Could
it be a problem with the actual code in WORD? I already
erased the code and re-entered it - still the same
problem. Can anyone help? You've been a great asset in
the past!

Yes, it is a Word problem.
The same would happen if you were to print the document on paper (as opposed
to a PDF format). In some versions, Word has trouble updating the total page
count field.
See

for some info.
