Numbering Problems

P

Patrick Zirngast

Hi,
I have a severe problem and honestly Word is driving me nuts...

I¹m working on a questionnaire for an experiment and word should do the
numbering of the various items. This causes several problems:

1.) Word just doesn¹t want to accept, that I only want to start in the
middle of a line. Everytime I hit the numbering-button (guess it translates
differently), it puts the start line thing in the middle of the line.
Changing the default format doesn¹t change anything. Changing the options in
the main menu for this results in a complete mess. The copy-format pencil
isn¹t helping at all.

2.) Eventually a question can be answered by checking an option, for
instance:
Q9) Are you older than 10 years?
a.) YES
b.) NO.

Q10) blabla

Q11) Do you like cookies?
c.) YES, I do.
d.) NO, I don¹t.

--- actually, that¹s how it looks like, though even in Q11 the answers
should be labeled a.) and b.). Changing this to the desired format, results
in Q12) to be labeld ³i.)² for no obvious reason. And there is no way to
have it Q12. Every other combination is accepted (A, First, Second, 01,...),
but only with a big margin on the left side.

3.) Having a comment between two questions, which is not numbered, results
in the next question to start with Q1). ³Continue list² doesn¹t change
anything.

It is not the first time, I¹m doing such stuff, but never on a Mac-Version.
I used WIN Office 2003 for a lot of work and never experienced such trouble
before! By now I wasted at least half a day on formating a 3 pages document!
I do not want to blame anybody, but I¹m really upset.

I even tried to do it by hand, but after a while word tries to be smart and
takes over, though it is a poor student and doesn¹t catch all items,
resulting in an even bigger mess.

I appreciate any helpful comments on this problem! I need to get the
experiment up and running, as this is supposed to be the main part of the
work and the most time-consuming.

Cheers,
Patrick
