numbering rows

how can i get excel to put the row number at the
beginning of each row? (not the total number of rows)

Do you mean while it is on your screen or while you print
it. I am not sure how to do it with printing, but to get
it on your screen, go to Tools-Options. Click on the View
tab and at the bottom, make sure the "row & column
headers" box is checked.

of course, the simplest way to do it is: in column a,
type 1 in cell a1, 2 in cell a2, then edit, fill, series,
step value is 1, highlight column for the length of your
entries, and bob's your uncle!
