Numbering Style

I am using Word 2003. I am using auto numbering. When I
select Customise Numbering, Number style option is there.
There i have on of the option as "01, 02, 03,.....". In
my document i need to have some thing like "00001, 00002,
00003,.....". Is it possible by some means? My numbering
will go upto 1000's i.e. "01000"

Hi

It's not possible to use automatic paragraph numbering and get the format
you want. You'll have to use SEQ fields.

Do ctrl-F9. Within the brackets, type
SEQ para \# "00000" \* MERGEFORMAT

Press F9 to update the field. If necessary, Shift-F9 toggles between the
display of field codes and the display of field results.

Since it will be tedious to enter this field every time you want to number a
paragraph, you could create an AutoText. Select the
whole field and the tab, Insert > AutoText. Having created the AutoText, you
could then assign a keyboard shortcut to insert the
AutoText.

Note that fields don't update automatically. F9 will update the field under
the cursor. Ctrl-a, F9 to update all fields in the
document. Make sure that you have ticked the box at Tools > Options > Print

Update Fields.

Hello Kelly,

This works fine. It served my purpose. Thanks a lot.

Is there any other ways by which this can be implimented?
I am asking just incase there if there is a easier way.
When i do numbering, i just have to press enter to create
the next number and if i delete 1 or more rows inbetween
it automatically updated the following numbering. In this
case i always have to select all and F9.

Hi

No, it's not possible to get the formatting you want with paragraph
numbering (which updates automatically). You can only do it with fields
(which need to be updated with F9, or, will update when you print or print
preview, if you have ticked the box at Tools > Options > Print > Update
Fields).

Pradeep if you want a configurable, automated interface for inserting
SEQ field numbers with leading zeros, have a look at Pro_Numbering:

which offers:
* 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers
* 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers with comma(s) at three digit intervals.
