Numbering

When I apply a style that has step numbering in it, it
tends to continue the numbering from the previous list. If
I select "Format" > "Bullets and Numbering" the options in
the "List Numbering" area of the screen presented
i.e."Restart Numbering" and "Continue Previous List" are
shown as disabled! Changing things via the "Customize" has
no effect. I am using Windows Word 2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3).

Also, sometimes Word tries to write a Normal.dot into the
local directory where the document file is located.

Does anybody know how to restart numbering in this
scenario? Please advise.

Tony,

Words numbering is complex and some might say fickle. If your taking
advise, I recommend you avoid Format>Bullets and Numbering and the Bullets
and Numbering icon. Here are a few links to articles on numbering that you
