Numbers do not format correctly

I am running Excel X for Mac. Until yesterday, numbers formatted as I
expected they would. Now, however, no commas or currency symbols
display. When adding decimal places to cells, there is no decimal
point and the added decimal place numbers appear to the left of where
the decimal point would be.

Highlighting and using the format menu does not help. The tool bar
icons for comma and dollar formatting do not work.

Have I inadvertently made some change to the number formatting. It
seems to be universal in that any workbook I open has lost commas,
currency symbols, and decimals with percents.

Hope you can help!

XL picks up it's basic number formatting from the system. Check the
System Preferences/International/Number tab for a changed regional
setting.

I am having exactly the same problem. I checked my system preferences
and they are fine. Any other ides on how to fix this incredibly
frustrating issue?

Thanks

Mauybe you could check the "Preferences..." in Excel. In the "Edit" tab,
there is a "Fixed decimal" checkbox. See if this has been checked (and the
number of decimals set to "0").
