Numeric keypad not working in Office programs

Some other people have the same problem, but I don't think I have the
Microsoft "Network Security Updater", and I don't have a Microsoft
Preferences file under the Library>Preferences field which worked as
solutions for the others.
I am running an iBook G4 1.33 GHz. I have the latest version and
update of Office for Mac. I just updated Office (today) to see if that
would solve the problem, but it didn't. I tried resetting the PMU, and
that didn't work. I also checked to make sure that the mouse keys are
set to "off" (I even turned them on, and then back off again just to
be sure). Also to note, the numeric keypad functions as a navigator in
Office programs, but functions normally in other non-microsoft
programs. Any ideas?

That is strange. You are supposed to be able to switch between
navigation and data entry in Excel by toggling Shift-Clear or Num Lock
depending on your keyboard. But there is a Microsoft support article at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272806
which says that functionality was specifically removed from Word on and
after Word 2001 to match Apple conventions.

I just checked on my Mac to confirm that shift-clear toggles between
nav and numeric entry in Excel but not in Word as expected.

(Clear is that parallelogram with a cross-out over it, just north of
keypad 7)

Can you check that Excel toggles as expected?
I'm at a bit of loss to suggest a fix. Have you got quickkeys or some
other smartypants shortcut manager on your machine?

OH THANK YOU I LOVE YOU!
I have been trying to fix this problem for over a week now. You are
awesome.
