Numeric keypad quit

I'm running Excel 4.0 on a PB3400 using Mac OS 8.6. (can't run OS X). Today
I apparently did something that caused my numeric keypad to quit working.
It's acting like it's been made into an arrows grid, i.e. "2" moves the
cursor down, "8" moves it up, etc. It won't enter numerals, unless I use the
numerals on the main keyboard (yuck). If anyone has suggestions, I'd
appreciate them.

The usual trick (on standard keyboards) is to hold the Shift key while
depressing the "Num Lock" key (and it "turns off" the green light in the
Status Bar). But I couldn't say how this can be performed on a PB3400
running Excel 4.0...

Exactly the solution! Whew. Thanks, Bernard.
