When I enter a number in a cell it enters as 1/100th of the value entered. For instance if I type in 10000 and hit enter, 100 shows up in the cell

Preferences/Edit, uncheck the "Display this number of decimal places"
checkbox (which was a boneheaded renaming of XL04's "Fixed decimal
places" preference).

In Excel> Preferences> Edit either set the Display this Number of Decimal
Places value to 0 or clear the check altogether.

I have the same problem. It looks like that it happens only when formatting the cell as currency or accounting.
I also tried to change "Display this number decimal places" value, but brought me some weird results. See what happens when I put "1":
Decimal places => Result
3 => .0,10
2 => .1,00
1 => .10,00
0 => .100,00 (same as unchecked)
-1 => 1.000,00
-2 => 10.000,00
-3 => 100.000,00

My regional settings are ok.

I solved!!!!!
After hours and hours I found out what is going on!

The International format of my Mac OS was not defined as US format....

After changing the problem quit.
