Sorry to belabour this subject....I've been reading the threads pertaining to
the NumPages field. And it has given me problems thru many itterations of
word. Is there a way or switch in the code to get numpages to stop numbering
when it encounters a specific section? What would the code look like?

My example: Form template opens with only 2 pages. Page1 contains two
sections, section 1 starts at the top of the page and there is a "continuous
section break" below . This first section is protected because of form
fields. Section 2, below, is unprotected. There are two paragraph marks in
section 2, with a "section break next page " inserted at the second paragraph
mark. This creates the "second" page which has a different header footer and
will start numbering sequence as 1 of X. This is working using "Page" and
"SectionPages".

Section 2 on page 1 will create additional pages by oversetting page 1. The
new pages created use the first page header and footer. Technically, and
visually, section 2 is just a continuation of the first page. Now the
cunundrum...since we all know that NumPages doesn't work worth a darn, can
the SectionPages field be modified so the page numbering flows seamlessly
thru section 2 and then stops when it gets to section 3?

Your thoughts please..

You can have different headers/footers in different sections.

NumPages works pretty well, you might want to specify how it isn't working
for you. You can use various calculated fields with combinations of the
NumPages and SectionPages fields and bookmarked page numbers to get just
about any page numbering anyone has suggested in these groups. Take a look
at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumbering.htm. For even more,

Charles:
No problems with headers/footers .....as to how numpages is NOT working:

Upon opening the file there are only 2 pages:
Page 1 (section 1, (protected) section 2 (unprotected) 'section 1 footer'
{page} of {numpage} shows page 1 of 2 (incorrect)
(section 2) 'footer - section 2' {page}
of {sectionpages} does not exist at this point
Page 2 (1 section) 'first page header - section 3' {page} of
{sectionpages} shows page 1 of 1 (correct)

now I type in section 2, oversetting page 1, creating a new page between page
1 and prior page 2 (3 pgs tot)
Page 1 (section 1) shows page 1 of 3 (incorrect) s/b 1 of 2Page 3 (prior pg 2) shows page 1 of 1 (correct)

Using numpages in section 1 footer shows all pages in the file (incorrect)
should only show pages in section 1 AND 2. Inserting {sectionpages} onto
'section 1 footer' only shows page 1 of 1 regardless of number of pages added.

That is why I was wondering whether there were switches that could be added
to the sectionpages field or does the section 3 footer need to be bookmarked..

As always Charles, my thanks
