{NUMPAGES} not working on printer

G

Gretchen

I'm using Word 2000. In the footer, using the Header and Footer toolbar, I'm
putting

{PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}

In Print Layout View and Print Preview, it looks just right. For a 3 page
document, say, I see on successive pages

1 of 3
2 of 3
3 of 3

But the pages come off the printer as

1 of 1
2 of 2
3 of 3

In other words, {NUMPAGES} is acting like {PAGE} on the printer, which is an
HP LaserJet 1320.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey, you folks are GOOD! Thanks a bunch. Reversing the print order fixed the
problem right off.

Curiously, although the problem is described as a post-Service Pack 3
phenomenon, it was happening to me even though I am still using the original
Word 2000. I don't even have SR1.

The "PageXofY" FAQ that you referred me to says that Word 2000 upgrades can
be obtained from Microsoft on CD. How can I request that? I made a feeble
search of Microsoft's website but couldn't find the place. (I do have the
original CD.)

Thanks again, very much.

Office 2000 will no longer be supported once Office 2007 ships. Since
Service Packs (unlike Service Releases) are always cumulative, SP3 is all
you need. Although I found KB articles about getting SP1 and SP2 on CD-ROM,
I found nothing similar for SP3. Your best bet is to go to the Office Update
site and let it scan your computer and point out what updates you need. That
way you'll be assured of being completely up to date, even if the downloads
do take a while.

Sounds like excellent advice. Thanks!
