O2003: Emails in Outbox until I click on the Sent Items folder

With Outlook 2003, emails sit in my Outbox until I click on the Sent Items
folder.

I have clicked on Tools, Options, Mail Set Up and verified that the "Send
immediately when connected" box is checked.

Any ideas?
