O2007 b2 installs OK but programs won't start

I'm running a fresh install of Vista b2, build 5308. I have installed Office
Pro Plus 2007/b2 and the install completes OK. This is on a Compaq v2565us,
Sempron w/1GB and ATI xpress 200m.

I try to start any of the programs, it sits for a minute or two then says
"Microsoft Office Word 2007 must be closed" then gives me a dialog with a box
to close the program.

No error message, no nothin'.

I checked the application log, there are Office Diagnostics messages stating
that MSOd does not see any repeated problems.

Any ideas?

In another thread I noticed that someone else had this problem.

Evidently MSO2007 beta is NOT supported on vista build 5308.
Does this make sense to anyone?

I'd appreciate any suggestions of getting this to work by "unsupported" means.

I guess I'm on Openoffice til I get a version that will work.

For Office 2007 beta 2 on Vista you'll need Vista build 5384 or higher. Previous Vista builds have branded the desktop as 'beta 2',
but they weren't. (confusing it is).
