O2007 not honoring "do not send read receipt"

A

AlexT.

Well kind of.

I have defined in my preferences to "never send read receipts".

It turns out that Outlook is still generating "not read" receipts for
unread items being deleted by the auto-archive procedure. Is there a
way to turn this off ?

Furthermore those "not read" receipt do not show up in the outbox /
sent items but they are definitely sent...

Any help welcome

Receipts are hidden messages. They're in the Outbox before sending but not
shown.

Nope - Standalone mode. I run autoarchive on a daily basis.

That's quite correct. As I am reading multiple accounts I have defined
most of them with bogus SMTP servers. As such the unwanted but yet
generated receipts stay in the "virtually empty" outbox until I
manually delete them using mdbvu32.exe every week or so. Very
inconvenient :(

Hmm. Then Outlook should be honoring the "do not send" option. What
type(s) of accounts are you using?

If Outlook isn't honoring the setting, I don't know what to suggest other
than to include real SMTP servers. for the accounts. Until now, I've not
heard of this problem.

Only POP - about a dozen.

Well if I set a correct SMTP the "not read" receipts are sent out to
the people having requested a read receipt and whose messages are
being deleted as not read. That's the very reason I'm using a bogus
SMTP. I might want to setup my own SMTP that would accept those
messages but deliver to /bin/null...

BTW I have seen this with other users I support altough relativelly
seldom.
