Hi,
I am a bit confused about certain things regarding IMAP to be used
with Outlook 2010.
I've been using Outlook for years but always using a POP3 account.
Now I have an iPad, I set my mailbox account to be IMAP instead so I
can keep a copy of all sent messages from the iPad on my server.
The goal is to then access those sent messages directly in Outlook
2010 on my desktop so I could save them to appropriate folders no
matter from which device I sent them.
This works fine.
Where it's a bit blured for me is folder management.
I have about 50+ folders on my existing PST file and I have setup, as
a test for now, a new account based on IMAP in Outlook. Thus, it shows
as a second mailbox in Outlook.
Now this is a separate sent folder, not the one from my main account.
I don't want to drag/drop all sent items from the imap account to my
outlook Sent folder.
So I was wondering if I can just get rid off the POP3 account after
moving all my folders into the IMAP account in Outlook?
If yes, I DO NOT WANT those folders to be synced or even appear on my
mail server.
Will this work or will each folder and each email be sent to the IMAP
server so there is a 1:1 match between Outlook and the server?
Is there a way to set an IMAP account in Outlook that handles just the
"Inbox", the "Sent Items" folders, that's it, and ignores the rest of
the folders I attach to it (in Outlook)?
Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
