O2k3 - Some replies formatting as plain text instead of HTML.

Howdy,

I'm using Outlook 2003 and have a strange problem. Any time I create a new
email it always gets formatted as HTML and has my signature with some links
and bolding and such and everything works fine.

However when I reply to some messages, it formats the message as plain text
and all the formatting is gone and it looks horrible. Is there a setting
somewhere I can set Outlook to always format a reply/forward as HTMl even if
the original was sent in Plain Text? This is hugely annoying.

Luckily, no.

When someone sends you a message in plain text, more than likely, it is
because they do not want to deal with HTML. You should respect their choice
and respond in kind, as Outlook, by default, always responds in the same
format as the original message.

Thanks for the ettiquette question but this is regading work email where
everyone is supposed to be using HTMl formatting. I see that Outlook replies
in the same format but is there a way to override that?

Luckily, no.

If someone sends you Plain Text, perhaps they CANNOT accept HTML. Do you
want to treat your customers that way?

Thanks for not bothering to read my above post. this is AT WORK. We all
use Outlook, all computers are the same, every can support HTML. Some people
have turned theirs off by mistake and don't even know it. That is why I'm
looking for a way that when I reply it can send my reply in HTML instead of
Plain Text either automatically or by selecting an option of some sort.

Where do you receive them, then?

We
all use Outlook, all computers are the same, every can support HTML.
Some people have turned theirs off by mistake and don't even know it.
That is why I'm looking for a way that when I reply it can send my
reply in HTML instead of Plain Text either automatically or by
selecting an option of some sort.

Perhaps a policy setting can disable the ability to designate the format.

I am AT WORK. My customer are AT WORK. We all work together. One big
happy company. However some people have their Outlook systems configured
incorrectly which affects my (and everyone else they email to) problems when
we have to reply or forward their messages. All I'm looking for is a way
that if I get an email from someone here that is in plain text that I can
reply to them and change it to HTML or Rich formatting...

original post.

Like I said, there may be a policy setting (Group Policies - know what those
are?) that disables the ability to choose the formatting. Outside of that,
click Format>HTML when you reply.
