O2KSP-3

Win XP Pro
O2K Premium

SR-1 is installed and when I run SP-3 I get the message "The expected
version of the product was not found on your system".
Haven't found any info on the web or at MS to help fix this issue.I cannot
install any security patches due to wrong version.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Been a long time since I used Office 2000 but I checked the downloads I had
for it and the service packs are listed as SR1a, SP2, and SP3. Maybe you
need SR1a as opposed to SR1 and maybe SP2 must be installed befroe SP3. I
say maybe because I don't really remember - it's been awhile since I used
it.

Hello Sky,

The KB's are talking about Office XP and I am running Office 2000 Premium.I
am afraid to try the Office XP updates as it looks like that is another
product.

I looked for a full file version of 2000 SP3 and couldn't find one.

Still floundering alone,thanks much anyway.

The following is the way Office 2000 updates with SP

SP 1
SP 1a
SP 2
SP 3

You cannot skip Service Packs with Office 2000

Very sorry, my mistake.

Let's try this again. Here is a link to the description KB on Office 2000
SP3:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326585

and about one-quarter of the way down that page you will see the link for
Office 2000 SP3 Administrative Update, which is what you want. Download
that and follow the instructions in that section to install.

Sorry about the mix up, and hope this works to fix your problem.

Yes you did have it. SP1 came out way way before SP1a just to let you know. Office
2000 when purchased retail after SP1 came out included SP1. SP2 would have not
installed without it

Bu using Office Updater and the new Windows Update I have managed to install
all updates except 3 security patches. They simply replied "Installation
Failed" on both updaters.

They each give an error message,"Internal Error 2318" when I tried to
manally install them.

I Googled these three patches (KB969600,KB947361 and KB957790) and found
nothing..

So close yet so far,any more ideas?

TIA
Bob

Here is a copy of a post from a few days ago with another poster having the same
issue

Peter,
I just reviewed the previous month's posts and found a similar post to mine
from 7-15-09.
Your final response on how to fix the problem worked for me also. The first
suggestion on downloading the SR-1 fix from the following web site is the key
solution:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258323/
Further in this article it says:
Point your Web browser to the following address:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#o2sr1au
That page has moved and gives the following one instead:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2000/HA101693191033.aspx
Choose "Office 2000 Resource Kit downloads" and then, about 3/4 way down the
list of options, choose:
Office 2000 SR-1 administrator updates - updated May 12, 2000
Choose the following file for download: O2ksr1adl.exe
That is the file that really works for an update for SR-1.
Follow the instructions from the first page and store the files on
c:\FullSr1 when prompted for an expansion location. Start with the Setup.exe
program in that folder and you are golden! The update works perfectly!
I then immediately completed Office SP3 update as well.

Thanks so much for your help, Peter. I hope other people read this post
while searching for the solution

I just reloaded all of Office 2000 and updated to SP3 today/tonight on WinXP
box. One of the KnowledgeBase articles for SP3 said SR-1a is a prereq, and
also said SP2 is included in SP3. Also, the SR-1a KB article said SR1 is NOT
req'd first.

So here is order I did - after base Office2000 install on WinXP.
Was able to install SR-1a without first doing SR1. But had to use full
install file - o2ksr1adl.exe - found on mirror FTP site using google search.
Be careful to get US version. There is a link to the FTP site in one of the
later topics.
SP2 was NOT required. After SR-1a, was able to install SP3.
Each upgrade required I insert the original Office2000 CDs, to confirm valid
copy I guess.

Bob,
PreReq for SP3 is SR-1a, not just SR1. You can then skip SP2. Just did it
tonight.
The hard part is getting SR-1a. Quick install version of it fails and MS
Office download site link to the full install version no longer works. I did
a google search on the filename and found it on FTP mirror site.
http://www.filewatcher.com/m/O2KSR1aDL.EXE.53816504.0.0.html
I used the first file on the site because had "us" in path - some others are
other languages.
Was then good to go for SP3.

MS was no help but I ascertained by the error message the problem could be
with my WinXP Pro Windows installer rather than the security patches or
O2000.I searched and found the latest installer for XP Pro and downloaded
it.

I installed the "installer" and immediately installed the 5 patches. My O2000
is now updated.

Thanks for all the advice/ideas and good luck to all with this problem.

Bob
