Object Error & Edits Error

When I try to open a document, I get the following messages:

Error 1
“There are too many edits in the document. This operation will be
incomplete. Save your work.â€

Error 2
Error! Objects cannot be created from editing field codes.

Has anyone ever seen these?

I'm using Word 2003
