Object Method of Office.COMAddin object returns Nothing after connection

Some users at our company are getting Object Variable or
With Block Variable Not Set errors that seem connected to
not being able to access the object meant to be returned
by the Object method of the Office.COM Addin object. Does
anyone know of circumstances under which this method
returns Nothing when the COM Addin is meant to have been
connected (and what one can do about it??)?
