object snapping won't turn off in word 2003

I can't get rid of object snapping in word 2003. I went into Draw -> grid and
made usre both snapping options are off. I tried installing service pack 3. I
tried holding down alt, but that just made it snap to the grid as well.

When I try to move the green dot that marks the location of the end of a
line, it snaps to one of the 4 or 8 markers that surround each other object.

Hi C3,

Holding the alt key toggles the state of the 'snap' feature. If you have turned it off, then alt+drag it is turned on.

What type of shape/line are you using and are you working in a drawing canvas? Within the body of a document straight line ends
don't ordinarily have green (rotation) dots, but white sizing dots (handles). Be sure that you have the line set to a wrap style
(Format=>Auto Shape=>Layout) rather than 'inline with text'
