Objects disappear in Word 2002

I've created a document in Word 2000 that contains images
cut and pasted (as pictures) from PowerPoint.
When I open the document in Word 2002, the graphics
disappear; however, they reappear in Print Preview, so
they're not really gone. And yes, I've tried different
views, and they still don't appear.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Tools | Options | View:

1. Check the box for "Drawings."

2. Clear the check box for "Picture placeholders."
