I was experiencing the problem that, upon upgrading Office XP to Office 2003,
my file associations for jpgs, bmp, etc., were breaking. Picture Manager was
removing the associations and not re-associating the files with any program
"by design."
I found a work around, but do not know all of the implications of it. It
seemed that, if I DID NOT remove Obsolete Microsoft Office Files, I could
click on a broken image link after the upgrade and Microsoft Picture and Fax
viewer would re-associate itself with the files. This is a behavior I can
live with. At least it is an easy fix to the broken links. The user clicks on
the file. Fixed.
Is there anything else I should know about the obsolete files that get left
behind? Any other potential pitfalls?
