ocr handwriting

Stewart

I have many handwritten notes and wish to inport them to my computer and
then compile using Word.
I know I can scan them in as images but this would not enable indexing,
searching etc.
I have an Epson scanner with OCR but it does not recognise handwriting.
Does anyone know of a software package that enable OCR of handwriting?
If you know of a better newsgroup or forum for this then please let me know.
Thank you

I would suggest that you Google for Handwriting OCR, but don't be too
hopeful. AFAIK, handwriting recognition as used on Tablet PCs relies on
recognition of the individual strokes, not the finished letters, so I do not
think that even they can convert scanned handwriting into text.

Hope this helps.

Thank you; I went to the google site you mention and there are quite a lot
of references there. From what I read it is possible to use OCR for printed
handwriting but not for crylic.
I shall leave it meantime.
