October 2006 update crashes PowerPoint?

Badknee

I installed the most recent updates on 10-11-06 - Windows and Office. That is
the ONLY thing that has changed since I used PowerPoint the night before.
Now, PowerPoint won't run. The error message I get is "The application failed
to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click OK to terminate the application."

All of the other Office programs seem to work fine. What else can it be
except the update causing the problem?

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for any help I can get.

Seems to work fine here (I have all updates but not on a toshiba).

If you think an update is causing problems you can delete them one by one.
In control panel > add/remove programs tick the show updates box and remove
them one at a time to see if that solves your problem.

Did that answer the question / help?

Do you have anti-virus software running?
do you have adobe reader running in the background?

Try turning off each one to see if that does the trick.

Thanks.

I have AVG running, but wouldn't it cause a problem with Word, Excel,
Access, etc.? I turned it off and it didn't help. The only difference in the
computer when it ran before is the fact of the recent updates. Adobe Reader
is NOT running in the background.

Someone on campus suggested reinstalling PowerPoint. I've never had to
reinstall a Windows product, except when a HD died. Will I have activation or
any other type of problems if I just tried to reinstall PowerPoint? Do I need
to uninstall PowerPoint before reinstalling?

I REALLY need to be able to use PowerPoint.

Any help would really be appreciated.

John,

OK, that cured the problem. MUST have been the update, since everything else
is the same and now PowerPoint works.

Is this something that I should share with MicroSoft? I noticed that there
are some others who can't get PowerPoint 2003 to work right too. Or, since
you have at least some relationship with MS, will you pass it along?

Thanks.

How do I know which up

TAJ,

Don't know if you look at other posts or not, but when I deleted the most
recent update for PowerPoint, it started working again.

Will you or someone else pass this along to MS?

Thanks for your help.
