ODBC For A Beginner

This is my first excursion into Excel. What prompted it is that I have an Excel list (names, addresses, ages, etc. of homeowners). Basically, I want to cull the list (select, say, those over 45 years old), and then copy these selected homeowners onto a new spreadsheet.

As I got one or two steps into it, a message appeared that I'd need something called "ODBC". In the brief search I've done so far (on Mactopia) it looks like there are two companies that sell the stuff (can't you get it free elsewhere?) and I can't figure out which of their offerings I should get. I'd very much appreciate any help.

I don't know how you're attempting to do this that would cause any need for
ODBC... Open Data Base Connectivity is only needed if you're attempting to
interact with a different type of database source.

If you want to have certain records copied to another sheet in the same
Excel file why not just open the file & use the Advanced Filter from the
Data> Filter menu?

If you want the records in a different workbook you can then use the Move or
Copy Sheet feature to get the sheet containing the qualifying records into
the new book.

You'll find information on both features in Excel Help.
