ODBC network link?

T

Thomas Landry

Hello:

Can anyone advise me whether Office/Entourage can be linked to a third
party DB (on a different machine) to use contact information from the other
DB?

I'm presently using a Mac G5, and will be getting Office X next week. The
Mac is connected via ethernet cable to the simple network of two Windows
XP machines in my office.

I am still using a Windows based practice management app. which stores all
of the contact information used in my office. On my PC, I have linked MS
Outlook to share the main DB (Amicus Attorney) so that I only have to
maintain one set of client/contact info. This was a pretty simple procedure
using the ODBC utility in Win XP.

My question then is whether I can attach Entourage on my Mac G5 to the
same database on the WinXP PC?

Please note I am not a technical "pro", I know just enough to cause trouble!
:)

Thanks,
Tom.

Hi Jim,

yes, you can certainly interface your Office X on Mac OSX to a remote,
3rd party DB. There is a detailed (but simple) ODBC on the Mac FAQ
available at

http://www.openlinksw.co.uk/support/macosx-faq.htm

I am sure this will get you further. If you have any questions or are
looking for Drivers in order to make thiswork please feel free to drop
me a mail.

Kind Regards,
