ODBC or DDE neither work.

Thanks Cindy M, from a previous post Re: "No records
found / Connection to ACCESS query or table"
I am still unable to connect to ACCESS for a mail merge
in any capacity from WORD for a merge. I followed the
instructions on the website
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/index.html.
I have tried connecting to ACCESS with all the choices
avialable and been unsuccessful. Neither the 'DDE'
or 'ODBC' or 'OLE DB' option works. Why is this so
difficult. Both ACEESS and WORD came in the same Office
suite (2002) together. This seems like such a common
relation between the 2 applications.

I have found a work around solution using the DDE.
Thanks again Cindy for you help. One question still
remains, however. Why is this such a difficult process
when both the ACCESS and WORD applications are from the
same office suite(2002)? It seems that because it is all
Microsoft Office Suite software that this common use of
these applications should be seemless and straight
forward (Easy!).

Hi Eric,

Glad you're finally up and running.

Believe me, it wasn't meant to be difficult :) And FWIW,
looking back at your original problem description, I can't
recall having ever seen anything like this - in any version
of Word. On my installation everything works just fine...
(easy).

If you wish, we can pursue what might be wrong with your
configuration. My first concern is always to get things up
and running, so that people can get on with their work. But
there must be something basically wrong with *something* on
your installation.

I would agree with you that *something* seems a bit off
with my install. For now I think I will work with the
work around and see if I come up with a better
understanding of the root problem. At that point I may
be better able to explain what is happening. Thanks again
very much for your help.

Eric,

I'm having the same problem with Office Suite 2000. When I create a merge document in Word (like I always have) and then try to connect it with the corresponding data source in Excel, I receive a DDE error. It has worked before. Both documents are in the same subdirectory. Any help anyone can give would be very much appreciated. As now, I cannot merge and have a major project to finish with an encroaching deadline.
