ODBC to Excel & Back

Trying to link shapes with custom properties to an Excel database, where I can enter new values and update my drawing.
I can export my entire drawing successfully to Excel, but cannot 'refresh' or 'update' unless I go back into Visio and enter the 'ShapeID' into the new ShapeKey property for every single shape in the drawing

I think my problem is Excel / Visio knowing which Excel Row equates to which Visio shape. Am I using the wrong primary key (I'm using ShapeKey) ??
