Odd Behaviour - Project Gallery - Office 2004

Hi all

I recently created two new templates in Word 2004 (V11.1) (saving as .dot
template files) and saved to the "My Templates" folder. When Project gallery
opens and I select that folder, all the new templates show up but as blank
white icons, not the normal blue and white images one expects.
Interestingly, the older templates I had created with Word V. X show up
normally. When I change the view in Project gallery, all the icons show up
normally. In Finder the icons all show normally too.

This does not affect the behaviour of the files so the problem seems to be
cosmetic only. Any ideas why this is happening? Anyone else experiencing it?

Thanks

I'd guess that you saved the templates displaying a blank icon with a
preview picture (File/Properties), but have no text in it.

If a template was saved with a preview picture, the preview picture is
shown. Otherwise a generic icon is shown.

One template has no text in it (my alternate to 'normal') and the other is a
form template with text in it. The first shows a completely white blank icon
while the second shows where the form text is. In 'File/Properties', the
'Save preview picture with this document' box is ticked. I have saved
templates before from Word V.X and they show up normally in Project Gallery.
This really stumps me!

As I suggested in my reply, what you've described is the by-design
behavior. I find it very helpful in visually distinguishing my
templates, especially the ones with letterhead or a unique layout.

What is stumping you?

Why is the behaviour for these two recent templates different from all the
other templates I have saved in the same folder? I don't understand your
response - what is the "by-design behaviour" you mention? Not clear to me
from your previous post. I would have expected all templates to show up the
same way.

Thanks

You apparently saved "all the other templates" without a preview picture
(File/Properties).

By design, templates saved with a preview picture display that picture
in the Project Gallery.

By design, templates saved without a preview picture display a generic
Word template icon.

Thank you. That is now clear - I am a slow learner at times! I appreciate
your tolerance.
