I have run into this on several occasions where I have numbered paragraphs
and then on some machines there appears to be some garbage characters
between the number and the first text of the paragraph.
I've got a section of a document like the following:
1. ÇÇÇ Definitions
1.1 "First item"
1.2 "Second item"
2. ÇÇÇ Next Main Point
Everything that's indented (1.1, 1.2, 2.x etc.) is okay, but the primary
paragraphs show three latin Cs between the number and the text. I've also
seen ¼¼¼ there but usually it's the ÇÇÇ sequence. We had this on one
machine and after a whole slew of attempts to fix it, we didn't find out
what caused it but the nuke and pave of the machine (complete reformatting,
fresh install of the OS and MS Office) and it started to work correctly.
Now I've seen it crop up on a few other PCs and want to know what can be
done without going with an all out reformat/reinstall sequence on those PCs.
Any ideas?
