I have an Access Database which has its back end residing on a network server
and its front end on the user’s computer.
We want to give access to the database to another computer in another
department.
We mapped the shared drive and I then placed the front end of the database
in a folder in the All Users folder. Then, I placed the short cut that opens
the database through our specific security file in the All User’s Desktop
folder.
Initially, when the users logged on they got the following error message:
“Count not use ‘Admin’; file already in use.â€
I did some research and concluded that the users (more than one user logs
onto the computer through their individual NT account) needed read/write
permissions for the shared drive.
I forwarded this info to the IT folks and they began setting up the
permissions. The first individual was able to log on with no problem.
The next day, a different individual logged on and when opening the db
through the short cut got an error message stating “Microsoft Access can’t
find the database file ‘C:\Documents And Settings\All
Users\Kazimiera\K2.1.mdb.â€
EXAMPLE:
NT Log on - SMITHJ: OPENS DATABASE WITH NO PROBLEM
NT Log on JONESP (SAME COMPUTER) – OPENS DATABASE THROUGH SHORT CUT (Short
cut target is, “"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\MSACCESS.EXE"
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Kazimiera\K2.1.mdb" /WRKGRP
"G:\KazimieraData\Kazimiera\K2SecFile1.mdw") and gets error message stating
“Microsoft Access can’t find the database file ‘C:\Documents And Settings\All
Users\Kazimiera\K2.1.mdb.â€
Any thoughts on why these error messages are popping up? How can access find
the DB when one user is logged on but not when another when the short cut is
excatly the same?
