Odd Outlook Issue. Cannot enter file names in dialog boxes, and m

I am having an odd issue with one of my client's Outlook 2007 setups. Well,
a few odd issues, but I suspect they're linked.

He is running Office XP, but has upgraded outlook to the 2007 version. The
e-mail server is an exchange server, which he connects to via https proxy.
He can download and read his e-mail properly, as well as his contact lists
and pretty much everything else.

However, if he tries to do anything where he has to enter text data into a
dialog box, or browse files, he cannot. For instance, if he were to try and
insert an attachment into a message, he would get the attachment window with
the file list, however that would only show directories, no files. He cannot
type in a file name, as the dialog box where you could so is visible, but you
just cannot type anything into it. This also happens with other similar
functions, such as trying to create a new signature, with the signature name
dialog box.

Additionally, and I suspect related, is that while he can access his contact
list, if he tries to add someone from that list via the To: CC: or BCC:
contact list menus, outlook just ups and crashes out, forcing a restart.

I am completely stumped here. I've installed, uninstalled, cleared out all
his old .psts and reinstalled again, but with no luck.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Is it an Office XP vs Outlook
2007 conflict? Is there an issue with his account on the exchange server
that might be causing a problem? Any thoughts?

Does the user encounter the same issues when using OWA?

When Outlook was upgraded to 2007, was a new Outlook profile created? This
is recommended.

Also, was a PST brought over from Outlook 2002?
