Odd time update from Admin Project

We have made a new admin project, set up as fixed duration non-effort driven
with 1 day duration on task. We have added our resources to the admin tasks
and they thus get a nominal 1 day "work" on the task. The individuals have
entered their time into the project and the PMs have accepted. The snag is
that the project has been updated with the time that the individuals put in
PLUS the 1 day. What seems to have happened is that the 1 day has gone into
the project on the 1st of the month and the entered hours on the correct
days. Any idea what is going on?
