A user at my company just called me with a complaint about something odd
happening in Word 2003 SP2. Between his panic level, his lack of experience,
and my inability to actually see what he's doing, this description is vague,
but perhaps someone here can see through this issue anyway. I'm using Word
2000, and I suspect there are some program or formatting options in his
version which I don't have.
1) After typing a number like 00560, Word removes the leading zeros, as
Excel sometimes does unless you tell it to treat it as text.
2) With the cursor at the end of a line containing 560, he hits Enter and
Word automatically adds the number 561, as if it thinks he wants an
automated series.
The blank sheet he's using originates with clicking File, New, Blank
Document, and he says he has NOT modified normal.doc in any way. I'm
mystified.
