I'm trying to determine if it is legal to transfer
oem software that was purchase with a new pc to another
pc. I have a copy of office 2000 sr1 that was purchased
with a gateway several years back. I would like to remove
it completely from this machien and transfer to a new
gateway laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No you can't, it's tied to the original PC for life!

Doesn't /anyone/ *ever* read their EULA?!! That's a rhetorical question,
because the answer appears to be obvious!

OEM software is /permanently/ tied to the system it came with, and cannot be
transferred no matter what happens to said system.

You should have a) read the EULA and b) having done so, ordered Office with
the unit.

If you wish to have it on your new system you will need to purchase it.
