OEM Office CD's Not Associated With Workstations

M

Mandingo

We have purchased a lot of workstations from Dell. They came with
Office 2002 Small Business and Office 2002 Professional. My
predecessor did not label or keep the cd's with the workstations.
What has happened is as follows. Over time, we have had to reinstall
the workstations and since you can only activate 1 OEM copy via the
internet, we are having problems finding available cds. The only way
I know how to see if it has been activated is if I install the
software and then launch one of the Office apps. It then launches the
activation wizard. This waste a lot of time.

I've contacted Microsoft and they dumped it on Dell. I've contacted
Dell and they have no way of associating an Office CD with a machine.

Does anyone know of some registry key or something that I could use to
at least match the stations with the cds or cd keys?

If your question is about knowing which key is used in a particular PC then I suggest use this utility:

http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

This utility is only good if you have reinstalled the factory installed application. If not then the key obtained will be the one used by DELL which is generic volume licensed key assigned to DELL to roll out millions of PCs without actually activating anything!! This jkey is very useful if you want to reinstall on a different non dell PC. I have done it and it works!. Fantastic secret to know.

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.
