OEM Version of Word 2000

For about 2 years I've been using Word 2000, and OEM version that came with
my Dell. I read somewhere that it is "better" to have a regular version.
Anyone know why? Thanks,

Hi Ross,

An OEM version has exactly the same functionality as a Retail version. It
is however only licensed for use on the machine with which it is supplied.
Installing that copy of the software on another or a second machine amounts
to a breach of the End User Licence Agreement (EULA)

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the

Hope this helps

As Doug suggests, that makes a retail copy more portable. If, for example,
you wanted to buy a new computer and transfer your copy of Word/Office to
it, it would have to be a retail copy. If you wanted to use your current
copy as the basis for an upgrade on another machine, the same would be true.
OTOH, it's usually cheaper to get an OEM upgrade on a new machine than to
purchase retail copies, so the point may be moot.
