OEM versions...a deal?? or junk

MG.

Hello to all. I noticed some really crazy prices on "OEM" versions of
Office XP Pro on a software website. Is this stuff legit to install on any
PC. I know it's supposed to be bundled software but it's not bootleg, so is
it really a deal? Can any future patches, etc be applied?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
MG

If you get the OEM version you can only get updates from the OEM vendor. You
will not be able to update via Microsoft.

Maybe that's why it's so cheap. The seller is aware many people don't know
they have to update from the OEM and they try Microsoft and get pissed when
it doesn't work and Microsoft gets blamed.

Hi M.G.,

It's not offered by MS as a standalone/retail product.

Support for OEM products is provided by the PC provider,
not by MS, although update patches will be available
through http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdates

OEM editions of Office XP are not eligible for the
free (except shipping) upgrade to Office 2003 from
MS under their technology guarantee.

OEM copies of MS Office can only be activated on one
PC and are generally not transferable. Boxed retail
copies allow installation on one desktop and one portable
PC of the same user.

Thanks to all for the specific info...as it goes "you get what you pay
for!"
The 2-license deal alone is worth the retail package.
