Of 2000 can't use "show Me"

Hi D.L.,

For security improvement reasons MS Office 2000 had the ouactrl.ocx turned off and that disabled the 'show me' features. You can,
at your risk, activate it again basically by reversing the process from this article and restoring the version from the original
Office CD.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263640/en-us?FR=1
(assuming that there hasn't been a later Windows security update that would also block it <g>).

==================
Show me will not work, says ouactrl.ocx not installed correctly. reinstalled
office 2000 but still does not work, repaired office 2000 still does not
work. version of file is 2.0
Put my security to low, but still does not work.
Suggestions?>>

So, I can't turn it on, right, otherwise if i do then the next update will
put it back to off? ALso, do you mean office updates only or windows updates?
Can I just re-name it and/or delete it?
OR , do I have to delete the program and then re-install office?

ALso, when I re-installed it for the second time, the personal web browser
did not install.....what is that and how do I install it, from the disc
installation of components, advanced?

I'm encountering the same problem on 2 seperate XP machines.
On a desktop, I did the suggested Repair and that produced the same
results.
On a laptop, I uninstalled, re-booted, and re-installed Ofc2K. After
rebooting, but before applying any Office Patches (SR1, SP3, etc), the
same problem occurs.
Thought #1 - We are running Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition
9.03 / Client Security 2.2.x. I can't "lower my shields" any lower
than Medium (under the Internet Control Panel settings) for General
Internet.
Thought #2 - Is the "problem" caused by a Windows XP security patch?
Which one is the culprit?
Thought #3 - Is this a problem I REALLY need to contend with?
Thought #4 - Is the solution Open Office?
