Ofc.Update vs MS Update ?

As I do from time to time, I check for updates for my products even though I
have Auto Updates ON. I have found a confusing conflict.

When I check "Office Updates" it tells me I need[checked] Office SP2(size 0,
already downloaded), of course I get an installization failed message (didn't
notice the size the first time).

Add/remove shows installed some time ago!

The KB's tell me to check the registry because I have used registry cleaner
and it might be corrupted. Upon checking the registry ("Uninstall") I find
the GUID for Office Pro 2003(which was an Upgrade) starting with 9111. When I
go to the "Delivery" location referrenced in the KB I see the GUID starting
with 9000 NOT 9111. Also, back at the "Uninstall" location it referrenced the
9000 as the installization GUID in a sub key. Also noted NO "InstallLocation"
subkey when other Ofc.Prod,'s showed .../Office. The fix was to supply the
original "Install Path", which it already had!

Now comes the good part.

Just for grins, I went to MS Update. It showed "0" for "Office"???? Why the
conflict? I'm not sure I really have a problem, but, I figured I check here
before spending $35 for nothing.

As I like a "clean" system, here is the questions (took my time getting here
didn't I).

Do I really have a problem?

If I do a "Detect/Repair" for Office Pro from Add/Remove(sez it restores to
original install), what is that going to do to all the subsequent "updates
and fixes"?

What to do, what to do?

BTW, I also have WLOC, Defender B2, and IE7 B2 installed. I have been using
CCleaner for the Registry.

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated, Thanks

Just reading the above makes me wonder.

Peter,

I'm wondering too. I can see the registry cleaner removing something but not
altering something. WLOC and Defender and IE7(I think) also do "updates" and
have been known to cause problems. But, the fact the MS update sez OK for
Office and Office Update sez "needed" is even more confusing. Also the
recommended fix for adding the "installization path" was pointless as it was
already there. The 9000/9111 reference is also confusing as the
9000(InstallLocation key) could have been for Office XP Pro which was
upgraded to 2003 Office Pro. Still need some advice and counsel.

Thanks
