I accidenttaly downloaded ofc xp sp3 and I do not have this application on my
computer where I do volunteer work. When I try to open up a word file, a box
pops up "preparing to install" and it tells me there is an error. I
understand the error because I do not have Office XP, but how can I get rid
of the installation box and get into my files? I really would appreciate help
on this matter. Thank you.

Do you have Office at all? What version?

What is the error message, specifically?

No, I do not have Office. I have Microsoft word 2003. I don'[t remember the
error message specifically as I am not on that particular computer. What it
comes down to is it tells me I cannot install this program. I don't want to
anyway as I don'[t have it but until I can remove the 'installer' I can not
get into my word documents. Thank you for your help and if you need specific
'message'please let me know and I will have to get it for you.

Try reinstalling Word 2003 and see if that resolves the issue. I suspect
Word is trying to reconfigure itself and not the patch trying to install. It
would recognize that there isn't anything to patch.

If not, then post back with the exact error you see.
