Off 97 SR2 Setup.exe /ua

Jimmy Lee

Hi,

We have the following situation: Office 97 (Standard) SR2 is installed
on Win XP (from a standard image).

I'm trying to run setup.exe /ua (from a bat file) to unistall Office.
I first get a Setup Error 688 'a command line option has been used,
which is valid only in Maintenance mode; followed by Setup Error 723
'Setup was unable to read configuration information from the first
section of the setup file:
D:\~MSSETUP.T\~msstfof.t\Off97Std.stf.

This setup string worked fine in a test using SR1.

What is going on, solutions, work arounds
Help! any documentation?

TIA,

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

If Acme Setup (used by Office 97) detects that
the current installation of Office is valid
and that you're uninstalling using the media from
the same edition then it's in 'Maintenance Mode'
The /u or /ua switches only function if it
accepts that Office is installed per this test
http://microsoft.com/office/ork/appb/appb.htm#dex7

If you have used the Office 97 Network Installation
Wizard (NIW) to create a customized installation
or the installation or .STF file is damaged then you may
receive the types of errors you're running into
(793), and the .stf file may need to be corrected
(if it's pointing to the wrong source/install location)
or removed and a reinstall done.

If you're trying to remove Office 97 you may want
to try the eraser utilities. If you're upgrading
to a newer version the setup process there may be
able to remove the older versions successfully.
