Off Topic subject: Has spam filtering broke down?

P

Phillip Jones

I ask this because recently I have being post sent to Word, excel , and
PowerPoint newsgroups. for everything from Clothe, knock off watches.
and just a a few minutes ago a link to X-Rated material.

I have been dutifully been forwarding the items to the proper abuse
address for Microsoft.

Although I thought it was proper thing to do. I am beginning to wonder
because it looks like Its increasing instead of decreasing.

There are two absolutely secure ways of killing spam on newsgroups. One
is to use a secure Server such as the old secnews.netscape.com,

The other is a method that Annexcafe uses. You are allowed to go to only
two groups at first. where you asked to be invited in you are asked to
fill out a form and choose a user name and password then you must set
the settings to use authentication on this server or equivalent. Then
each time you come in you must type usename and password before you can
go to desired group you do have a waiting period before your
authenticated before you can start.

If we are going to be over run with spam we need to go to one of the two
methods.

We went for years with out any spam. Now there are 4 to 5 pieces every
day. That doesn't sound like much but multiply that by 365 days. That's
quite a lot.

I will only post here hoping the powers that be will read this. and
respond.

Hi Phillip:

The Spam filter isn't broken, it's just that the brain-dead little pests are
trying harder these days, and a few are slipping through.

But they kill them pretty quickly :)

Cheers

Well I hope my efforts are not wasted! I hate spam (except the type you
get out of the Blue and yellow can at the grocery store). :)

I'm careful not to send to many on to the proper place!
