Office 03 slipstream patches help

B

Brian Roberson

I want to incorporate the 5 or 6 patches that have been released for Office
2003.

I'm attempting to do what I have done in the past and slipstream the
patches. The problem is i'm continually getting:

"You have no entered a valid product key" or "Product key invalid"

This is a 2003 admin install where we use a transform file. All files are
present including setuppro.exe and pro11.msi in addition to all of our
transform files. I don't understand why the patch process is having trouble
with our keycode. Do we need to put our keycode into a file in that
directory? Currently if you run setuppro.exe without a transform you do
have to manually put the key code in. I figure it is running it and choking
on that fact. I never receive the opportunity to put in the key code
either.

Any ideas?

As a followup - i ran the administrative update "/A" on the CD. This
created a different structure. When trying to run the patches against it,
now i'm getting "Insert Microsoft Office 2003 CD" instead of the invalid
product key. I can't understand where the message is coming from or where
it wants me to insert the CD.

Are you using the larger, full patches that are made for patching the admin install points? There are the binary (diff) patches that require the source media (or a LIS cache on the client), and then there are the full patch files that do not require the source. The full patch is what you need. These can be used to patch an admin install point created by running setup /a OR they can be used to patch a client PC that does not have the source media or LIS. Do not run the patches from CD (or other read-only media).
