Office 11..1.1 Update not installing

S

Shade

I'm running Office 2004 on an iMac G4, OS 10.3.4.

I did an 'About' in one of the Microsoft programs and see that the
version is 11.0.0.

I downloaded the update for Office (11.1.1) and attempted to install it
to address an Entourage-crashing problem.

I get the error message: "Office 2004 11.1.0 update could not locate
the correct version of Office on your machine."

I've since moved and removed the Microsoft Office folder under
'Applications' and installed fresh, after restarting the computer.
Each time, the update program gives this same message.

How can I force the update to install? Or what hidden file should I be
removing?

Thanks,
Curtis

Which program did you do the About in? The About numbers are not reliable.
If even one of them says 11.1 (and Word ought to), then the update was
successfully installed.

I think that error message is the misleading one that does occur when the
update has already been applied.

See here for best practice on Remove and Reinstall, however--"moved and
removed" does not sound like you did it properly so you may need to clean
everything out for a fresh start.

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

By the way, Panther is now up to 10.3.9, seemingly without problems.

Hi Daiya,

I will check out the link that you sent and attempt to do a complete
remove with your suggestion.

The reason why I think that the update wasn't installed is that it
should attempt to correct the error by which Entourage continually
crashes.

I'll remove, update and see if that works. Thank you for the information.

Thanks,
Curtis

Hmm...on re-reading your message, I think maybe you need to run the 11.1
update, then the 11.1.1 update. (I can't quite remember)

Instead of searching and downloading, try using Help | Check For Updates,
which will tell you what you need, I think.
