Office 11.2.4 Upgrade Issue?

I recently upgraded to version 11.2.4 of MS Office for Mac. However, I
noticed that Word and Excel are not reflecting the upgrade in their
About Word or About Excel dialog boxs.

For example Word is still reflecting version 11.2 (060202) and excel is
showing 11.2.3 (060209).
Notabliy Powerpoint is showing the correct version number of 11.2.4.
Entourage is also reflecting the correct version number with 11.2.4
(060510).

From what I understand each part of Office was updated and should
reflect this change in its version number, correct?

What is the deal and can it be corrected without having to uninstall
and reinstall software?

Jason,

Stay tuned here for a day or so. It is rarely necessary or helpful to
reinstall Mac software. It is entirely possible that either Excel did not
get updated in this release, or only a component got upgraded that did not
necessitate a version bump for Excel. There should be some more news here
shortly.

Had the same problem here. Didn't see any version numbers upgrading.
Also, if you rerun the updater, it wants to update the software it
previously just updated. If I remember correctly, in the past, if the
update "took", it would come back with a message that said "no update
is needed".

I saw something similar here (MacBook Pro, 10.4.6, all previous office
updates). However, when I reran Office Update, it told me no updates
were needed. Going to the Mactopia site, and to the downloads page for
this update, I saw the following:
"This update fixes vulnerabilities in Office 2004 for Mac that an
attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory
with malicious code. This update also fixes issues in Microsoft
PowerPoint 2004 and Entourage 2004, and it includes all of the
improvements released in all previous Office 2004 updates."
So, I guess it only updates Powerpoint (which did show that it was
updated) and Entourage (which I never use).

I had this issue in, I think, January, to do with 11.2.3. Here's the
correspondence: I assume that the issue is identical.

I installed the update successfully first time on two iBook G4s. These
only have Word, Excel and Powerpoint, so I cannot comment on any
Entourage issues.
Interestingly, the Excel version shows as 11.2.3, but Word as 11.2,
though as Word seems to work OK I assume it updated as intended.

To which Paul Berkowitz replied:
$ That's an error (bug) in the "About Word" window from Word menu. It
was
$ reported too late to get fixed. But if you look in the Finder at the
Word
$ application file, you'll see that the Finder knows it's version
11.2.3.

Does this ring true for you?

It appears that only PowerPoint and Entourage were updated this time.

Microsoft only claimed to have updated Entourage and Powerpoint:

"This update fixes vulnerabilities in Office 2004 for Mac that an
attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory
with malicious code. This update also fixes issues in Microsoft
PowerPoint 2004 and Entourage 2004, and it includes all of the

This last statement refers to 11.0 --> 11.2.3 updates - it includes
them all.
