Office 12.1.5 update and Apple combo 10.5.6

Microsoft and Apple both released updates. I suggest not doing both updates
at the same time. If you have problems, then it will be easier to
troubleshoot one update at a time.

I did install Office 12.1.5 then OS X 10.5.6. I'm seeing no problems using
Entourage 12.1.5 with Leopard 10.5.6.

Suggestions for a good update.

1) Log out/in with Shift key down before running updater. This quits all
startup items including the hidden ones.
2) Restart after updating

The only significant problem for a small number of users for the Office
12.1.5 update involves the password not sticking. See the thread: "entourage
12.1.5 update password problems" for more details.

It can be solved by some by simply logging out/in or restarting. Other users
have had to revert to an older backup copy of Office then update. Seems
reverting to 12.1.4 did not work. You need to get back to an earlier
version.

Personally, I had Office installed on two volumes. One updated without
problems and the other experienced the password problem, but only for some
accounts. The second volume that updated without problem was a clone of the
original. I replaced the problem Office folder with the one that was
working. Password problem went away.

Tip for trouble free OS updates:

We've discussed using SuperDuper!(backup software) before, but this is an
excellent time to remind users about a feature it has that protects you from
system updates that so bad.

One of the options in SuperDuper! is to create what the author calls a
"Sandbox". It's used to revert to pre-update state of your OS. Here's a
description of how this option works:

A Sandbox is a bootable copy of your system, stored on another hard drive or
partition, that shares your personal documents and data with the original.
With SuperDuper!, you actually use the Sandbox as your startup volume. You
can safely install any system updates, drivers or programs in the Sandbox,
without worrying about what might happen to your system. If anything goes
wrong, you can simply start up from the original system. SuperDuper! has
preserved it in its original, pre-disaster state but all your new and
changed personal documents are totally up to date. Within minutes, you're up
and running again without having to go through a difficult and
time-consuming restore process.

SuperDuper! Is $27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied
user. <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/>

Happy Holidays!
