office 200 and window XP

I have a new compaq with windows XP installed. I
attempted to install my Office 2000 and was asked to
insert the Windows XP disk, which I don't have since
Compaq doesn't ship computers with the OS disk, just an
emergency recovery disk.

When I investigated the "insert the OS disk" request, the
following message came up "Windows Installer Sevice
cannot update one of more protected Windows files."


How can I get my Office 2000 installed?
