Office 200 error msg:file unavailable

I am getting the following error whenever I attempt to
open a file in either Word or Excel:
The file <filename> is unavailable

I'm not sure what I did, but these apps used to work.
The files themselves are okay. At least I think they
are. I first noticed the problem when I copied them to a
CD. When I tried to open one of them from the CD, I got
the error message. If I use the CD on a different
computer, I can read the files so i don't think they are
corrupt.

i can use the apps to create/save files but when i try to
re-open them, i get an error. the only thing i've done
recently is add users (i had been using the default
administrator id) but i don't know if its related. when
i look at help->about, it says 'user name placeholder'
which i thought was odd.

the computer (compaq persario) is only a few months old
and office came pre-loaded.

thanks in advance for your help,
bill

If you create a file and save it to your hard disc (or a floppy disc -
remember those? ), close it, and then try to re-open it what happens?
