On a network with 10 pc's (XP Pro) we all have Office
2000 installed. One day, on one system, MS Word did not
start anymore, resp., it crashed at startup. I have
blocked all users from installing sw, ergo the change
must have occured by automatic security update. I
un/reinstalled office which did not help. This brand new
Gateway came with addtl. software like Office 2002,
therefore, I uninstalled Office 2000 and replaced same
with 2002 vers. Same effect, crash at startup with
problems in winword.exe and kernel32.exe. The absolute
weird part is that if I log in as administrator or as any
another user of the network, the program starts and runs
without any problems. I have checked and changed back and
forth any possible security/permission variance, even set
up this user as an administrator with no restrictions, no
change. I guess we have some flaws in the registry and by
uninstalling Office, not all entries are being removed.
Therefore, as a first step I try to gain some knowledge
of how to remove Office COMPLETELY from this system.
Also, I would like to know why a MICROSOFT sw package on
a MICROSOFT os can crash. By the way, on my system, also
a 2.4 GHz Gateway, I run Money 2000 and each time I print
a general ledger, the pgm crashes. Of course I did send
the error report to Microsoft and one for the above
problem too but I'v never received any response.
If anybody has an idea or suggestion please mail as soon
as possible. Thanks
